After qualifying as a lawyer in the United Kingdom in 1966, Justice Aloma Mukhtar returned to Nigeria where she was warmly received by her parents and well-wishers. She is flanked by her parents, Mr. and Mrs Mukhtar in the above photo, which was taken after she stepped out of the ship that brought her home from the United Kingdom.

Justice Mukhtar is the first female lawyer from Northern Nigeria. The first female Judge of the High Court in Kano State. The first female Justice of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria. The first female Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the first female Chief Justice of Nigeria.
