Rebekah’s life proceeded without much incident until the day she overheard Isaac, her husband telling Esau, his first son to go and prepare for him special venison from his hunt so he would eat and then pronounce the blessing of the father on him. Quickly, she got her son Jacob to implement a plan that would see him taking the blessing Isaac wanted to give to Esau. After Jacob had fully understood her elaborate plan, he voiced his fear, ‘Behold my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver, and I shall bring a curse upon me and not a blessing.’

In her reply, Rebekah opted to be the fall guy or is it fall lady? The fall guy is the one who takes one for the other, or the rest of the team. Here is how she became the first fall guy in the Bible: ‘Upon me by thy curse, my son: only obey my voice and go and fetch me them.’ Genesis 27:12
