Every now and again, one hears a young Nigerian lamenting, “This life no balance.” While the statement holds true in some situations, it does not hold true in others, especially when we reflect on the many grass to grace stories springing up around us every day. For those who would rather use “This life no balance” as a crutch, the world’s richest woman, Mackenzie Scott, recently urged them to have a rethink.

While redeeming her Giving Pledge in July, she said, among other things that, “… I began work to complete my pledge with the belief that my life had yielded two assets that could be of particular value to others: the money these systems helped deliver to me, and a conviction that people who have experience with inequities are the ones best equipped to design solutions,”

When analyzed in greater depth, her expressed conviction that people who have experience with inequities (Life no balance) are the ones best equipped to design solutions, is a vote of confidence in the abilities of those persons! They carry within themselves certain capabilities and intelligence, outside/external ‘consultants’ do not have.
